| Tips for browsing the gallery The gallery page indexes photo galleries by photographer and theme. If you choose and click on a theme, you'll be delivered to an index page that lays out the browsing options for that theme. If you choose and click on a photographer, you'll be delivered to an index page that lays out the browsing options for that photographer. Photographer index pages include links to the photographer's photo galleries (listed by title/theme), an 'about the photographer' page and, where available, an 'about the photographs' page. By clicking on the 'about' links you'll have the opportunity to read a short photographer-submitted bio, as well as, where available, an essay, 'about the photographs.' By clicking on a gallery link you'll be delivered to a gallery index page. There, you'll find a brief introduction to the gallery and two browsing options: gallery tour or thumbnails, the same two options available on theme index pages.
Clicking on the thumbnails option delivers you to a page exhibiting all of the photographs in the gallery. You can click on any photograph to visit its gallery tour page. The gallery tour offers a photo-by-photo tour. Each tour page exhibits a photo and related information (title, description, date and location taken). Some pages also include a more detailed description of the photograph provided by the photographer; these are called fotologs and are displayed on the right side of the page (where available, you'll find a 'read fotolog' link directly below the photo data). If any visitor comments have been published about the photograph, those will appear on the right side of the page as well (where available, you'll find a 'read comments' link directly below the photo data). In addition to reading comments about the photographs, you can make a comment. Just click on the comment link and a comment form will appear on the right side of the page. You also have the option to bookmark or purchase a photo. You'll find both links, along with the comment link, in the column left of the displayed photograph. If you click the purchase or bookmark link on a gallery tour page, you'll be asked to either create a user account or enter user name and password for an existing account.
Once you're logged in with your new user account, you'll be able to bookmark and purchase photos on the site. At top right of the screen you'll notice four new links: 'you are logged in,' 'log out,' 'view your bookmarks,' 'view your purchases.' The first, 'you are logged in,' simply provides your status as a logged-in user. Once you're logged in, you won't have to enter your user name or password in order to access any of the site's log-in services. The second link, 'log out,' gives you the option to log out. Once you're logged in, you always have the option to log out. If you continue using the site after logging out, you'll have to enter your user name and password again in order to access the site's log-in services. The 'view your bookmarks' link gives you access to your personal bookmark index. The 'your bookmarks' page displays a thumbnail index of all photos that you've bookmarked (the most recent on top). The bookmarks index gives you a few options: 1. Clicking a photo thumbnail or title will deliver you to the photo's gallery tour page. 2. You can also click the purchase link; you'll find that at the bottom of the page. If there are multiple photos you'd like to purchase and you'd like to select identical purchase options for each, you can bundle the photos together by ticking the empty box next to each photo and clicking the purchase link. Whether you launch a single-image or multiple-image purchase, a purchase form will appear on the right side of the screen. This form will guide you through the purchasing process. 3. You can also remove the photos from the bookmark index. Tick the empty box next to the photo, then click remove. If there are multiple photos you'd like to remove, you can bundle the photos together by ticking the empty box next to each photo and clicking the remove link.
Finally, the 'view your purchases' link gives you access to your own purchase index. The 'your purchases' page displays a thumbnail index of all photos that you've purchased (the most recent on top). The purchase index gives you a few options: 1. Clicking a photo thumbnail or title delivers you to the photo's gallery tour page. 2. You can also click the purchase again link; you'll find that at the bottom of the page. If there are multiple photos you'd like to purchase again and you'd like to select identical purchase options for each, you can bundle the photos together by ticking the empty box next to each photo and clicking the purchase again link. Whether you launch a single-image or multiple-image purchase, a purchase form will appear on the right side of the screen. This form will guide you through the purchasing process. 3. You can also remove the photos from the purchase index. Tick the empty box next to the photo, then click remove. If there are multiple photos you'd like to remove, you can bundle the photos together by ticking the empty box next to each photo and clicking the remove link. You can return to your bookmarks and purchase pages at any time, including on subsequent visits; any photos you've previously bookmarked or purchased will remain there until you decide to remove them.
Elsewhere on the gallery tour page, you'll also see, in the upper left corner, the name of the current gallery. Clicking on the link returns you to the gallery index page. Below the current gallery link is a 'view thumbnails' link. Clicking it brings up the thumbnail page for that gallery. If you'd like to return to the photographer's index page, click the linkable photographer name at the top of the page. Above the photo displayed on most gallery tour pages you'll find two additional links: 'print and licensing options' and 'e-mail this page.' Clicking the first of these opens a window on the right side of the page that displays all available formats and sizes, and the price of each, for that particular photograph. The 'e-mail this page' link gives you the opportunity to send a link of the page to friends, family, colleagues -- anyone (with a valid e-mail address) you'd like to send it to. Whether you're visiting a thumbnail page or the touring a gallery, you always have the option to visit any of the information pages (submissions, purchase, terms & conditions, contact). Links for those pages are displayed at the bottom of every gallery page. Clicking either the logo at the top of the page or the 'home' tab at the bottom of the page returns you to the home page. You can find more information about the topics covered here on the submit, purchase and terms & conditions pages as well as the help & faq page. bookmark or purchase a photograph, you will need to create a user account.
Creating an account
is easy. As soon as you click either the bookmark or purchase option on any gallery tour page,
you will be asked to create a new account or to enter user name and password for an existing
account. We ask that your user name be your e-mail address; the password is yours to create.
There is no obligation that you keep a user account active; if you create an account and never visit
the site again, the user name and e-mail will eventually expire. foto38 will use the information you
submit consistent with our privacy policy.
You can find more information about user accounts on the Tips for browsing the photo gallery and terms & conditions pages, as well as by reading on.
If I create a user account, do I have any obligation to buy anything? Are there any
membership or hidden costs involved?
The answer to both questions is no.
What do I get by creating a user account?
As mentioned above, you can only bookmark or purchase a photo by creating a user account.
Once you have logged in you can manage your bookmarked photos and expedite the purchasing
process, if you decide to buy something. You can return to your bookmarks page at any time,
including on subsequent visits; any photos you have previously bookmarked will remain. If you do
make any purchases, the purchases will be likewise compiled on an index page. You can return to
your purchases page at any time, including on subsequent visits; any photos you have previously
purchased will remain.
You can find more details about bookmarking and purchasing photos on
the purchase page and the Tips for browsing the photo gallery page; the terms & conditions
page includes details on purchasing.
