Purchasing photographs foto38 images are available in two formats: as prints and via electronic transfer. Image licensing (via electronic transfer) For image licensing sales, customers can choose among the following options (where available): Royalty free:After payment of a one-time licensing fee, the purchasing client is entitled to use the licensed image as many times and in as many ways as s/he would like. Licensed images may be used in advertisements, brochures, catalogs, CD and book covers, academic projects, television and video programs, and Web sites. Licensed images may not, however, be used in situations where an image increases the value of a product as an essential part of the design (e.g., in calendars, on t-shirts, postcards, posters, clocks, mugs and similar merchandising ventures). Resale of licensed images is prohibited. Royalty-free images may be licensed multiple times by multiple end-users. Royalty-free images are model and property released. Royalty-free images are available in four formats: Web resolution: 72 dpi, approx. 600 x 800 pixelsMedium (A5) resolution: 300 dpi, approx. 14.8 x 21 cm High (A4) resolution: 300 dpi, approx. 21 x 29.7 cm Super-high (A3) resolution: 300 dpi, approx. 29.7 x 42 cm Some images will not be available in all formats listed. Maximum electronic transfer sizes are determined by the resolution at which the photograph was taken. Photographers designate prices for all resolution formats that apply. Please note: foto38 does not sell royalty-free image CDs. Rights managed: After payment of a licensing fee, rights-managed images are rented for a specific, one-time use at a price determined by the scope of that particular usage. Licensed images may be used in advertisements, brochures, catalogs, CD and book covers, academic projects, television and video programs, and Web sites. Price considerations for proposed use on a Web site, for example, include the visibility of the image – the page space it will occupy (half page, quarter page, etc.), its placement on the site (e.g., in the site banner versus the body of site content, on the home page versus an interior page), and site traffic. For proposed commercial use in a brochure or catalog, or proposed editorial use in a newspaper or magazine article, similar considerations apply, as well as the circulation of the published material. Licensed images may also be used in situations where an image increases the value of a product as an essential part of the design (e.g., in calendars, on t-shirts, posters, clocks, mugs and similar merchandising ventures). Rights-managed images may be licensed multiple times by multiple end-users. Rights-managed images that are not model and property released will be clearly noted as such and generally available for editorial use only. Electronic use on a Web site will in most (if not all) cases involve the licensing of a low-resolution image. Use in printed material will in most (if not all) cases involve the licensing of a high-resolution image.
Prints foto38 images are available in a variety of formats and sizes. You'll find a list of available sizes and formats for each photo upon launching an image purchase (by clicking the purchase link on a gallery tour page) or by clicking the 'print & licensing options' link above every gallery tour photo. Maximum sizes are determined by the resolution at which a photograph was taken (an 8-megapixel digital camera producing larger high-resolution images than a 4-megapixel camera, for example). Except in rare cases, all photos for print sale are available at a minimum size of 4x6 inches. Print purchase prices reflect both printing costs and the assigned value of the image itself, plus a 40 percent markup. In assigning value to an image, each photographer chooses a sales charge formula. The formula applies to all photographs in a photographer's published portfolio. For example, a photographer who selects a $1 per inch formula sells all of his/her work at that rate. At $1 per inch, a 4x6 inch image print sells for $10, plus the cost of printing and a markup of 40 percent. (The sales charge formula does not apply to image licensing arrangements.) foto38 uses the printing services of Kalamazoo Color Lab. They use the LED printing process called Chromira. Learn more. We use the exact same pricing as they do. Ppi for print is 425. If you opt to buy a print without a frame, Kalamazoo Color Lab will mail it directly to your address.
Framing We offer frames of various types and sizes from Nielsen Bainbridge. In a print purchase, you will be asked the question, 'Would you like to add a frame?' If your answer is yes, we will contact you with further details. We don't frame your photo; we just ship it to you.
Bundling If there are multiple photos you'd like to purchase and you'd like to select identical purchase options for each, you can bundle the photos together and launch a purchase. Bundling can occur only from two platforms: the 'your bookmarks' page and the 'your purchases' page. Once you have created a user account and logged in, you'll find at top right two links, 'your bookmarks' and 'your purchases.' The 'your bookmarks' page displays a thumbnail index of all photos that you've bookmarked, the 'your purchases' page a thumbnail index of all photos that you've previously purchased. On both pages you have the option to bundle photos together by ticking the empty box next to each photo and clicking the purchase link that will appear at the bottom of the window. You can find out more about this topic by visiting the Tips for browsing the photo gallery and help/FAQ pages.
Final considerations A quality guarantee applies to image licensing sales. foto38 warrants to you that its images are free from defects in material and workmanship for the 90-day period following delivery. We will either replace the image or issue a refund of the purchase price in the event of a defect within this time period. Customers receive an e-voucher of $50 for every $500 they spend on the site. The voucher applies to all photos and related merchandise available on the site. (Please note: A customer who spends $500 can apply the voucher toward his/her next purchase. The voucher will not expire; it remains in effect until the full $50 is spent. Vouchers are not redeemable for cash.) * 15 days following receipt of the product; the returned product must be postmarked, not received, within that 15-day period. ** Shipping costs not included.
